Panel - Start Your Own RE Company

The Michigan Real Estate Club will be hosting a panel discussion entitled How to Start Your Own Real Estate Company: Lessons From the Field on January 29th at 6:00PM in R2240. Each of our panelists will share their experience in the industry and provide insights into what it takes to be successful in launching your own real estate firm.

Moderator and Panelists

Atif Qadir (Partner, Amanat Properties; City of Hoboken Commissioner, City of Hoboken)
Mr. Qadir is the owner of Amanat Properties, a real estate development company he founded in 2017 to focus on the renovation of historic residential and mixed-use properties in secondary markets in metro New York. He also helps other developers, investors, and owners structure deals and raise funds to realize their own thoughtful real estate preservation projects. Previously, he was at Extell Development, where he worked on acquisitions and development for deals across the United States and in Canada. Prior to that, he was at Turner Construction and at Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates Architects. Mr. Qadir serves as a City Planning Commissioner for Hoboken, New Jersey, located across the Hudson River from Manhattan. He actively serves on a number of boards, including for The Hudson School in Hoboken, Haven Adolescent Community Respite Center in Jersey City, and En Garde Arts in New York City. Mr. Qadir is a licensed architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He received his MBA from Columbia and bachelor’s degrees in architecture and in urban planning from MIT.

Nick Falker (Managing Partner, Cambridge Realty Partners)
Nick joined Cambridge Realty Partners in 2015 in order to create and manage Cambridge’s multifamily funds. Since 2015, Cambridge has bought and sold hundreds of apartments. Prior to founding Cambridge, he worked for Cigna Realty Investors where he was involved in sourcing over $160 million in debt and equity investments. Prior to Cigna, he worked for Bristol Group Inc., a pension fund real estate advisor based in San Francisco. Nick began his career in real estate in 2007 with Eastdil Secured, underwriting the sale of large real estate portfolios nationwide. He was involved in the underwriting of more than $42 billion in real estate transactions during his time with Eastdil Secured. Nick has a B.A. from Colby College, and graduated from Deerfield Academy.

Michael Gallerstein (Principal, Equity Resource Investments)
Michael joined ERI in 2012 as a member of the firm's acquisition group. He is responsible for structuring, underwriting, negotiating and closing equity and debt investments. Prior to joining ERI, he was a member of The Clarett Group, a New York City based developer, where he helped to establish the firm's value-added group and worked directly under the CFO in raising debt and equity to pursue development opportunities. Michael also held the position of Vice President at Lexington Realty Trust, where he was involved in the acquisition of nearly $1.0 billion of single-tenant net-leased office, industrial and special-purpose properties. Michael holds a B.B.A. with high distinction from The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is a LEED Accredited Professional.
